The Start Of Something New
Welcome to the Famee Furlane Social Group, a new circle of friends! We are not a youth group and we are not a singles club. We are adults of all ages, with adult responsibilities. Some of us are members of the Famee Furlane and some of us are not. Certainly, most of us have a common Furlan background but what binds us together is our common vision and common goal of bringing a new generation of people into the Club and creating new possibilities for our building and the great spirit which still lies within its walls. The Famee Furlane has a tremendous history and great traditions which we are all close to because we have parents, grandparents and great grandparents who helped build those traditions here in Toronto. We should not allow that history and tradition to fade away. It is a great challenge and our Social Group wants to take it on through new ideas, new activities, community involvement, charity and passion. Our events are a fun get together as well as a way to promote the club and hopefully get more people involved in our group as well as the Famee Furlane in general. This Club is a family and a place for us our parents and grand-parents to call a second home. It begins with getting involved:

L’Inizio Di Qualcosa Di Nuovo
Benvenuti al Famee Furlane Social Group (Gruppo Sociale della Famee Furlane), un nuovo circolo di amici! Non siamo ne` un gruppo giovanile ne` un gruppo di singoli. Siamo adulti di ogni eta`, con responsabilita` adulte. Alcuni sono soci della Famee Furlane ed altri no. Certamente, tanti sono legati alle loro radici friulane, pero` quello che ci unisce e` una visione e uno scopo comune di portare una nuova generazione nell’ ambito del Club, cosi` creando nuove possibilita` per questo edificio e per il grande spirito che rimane nelle sue mura. La Famee Furlane ha una storia straordinaria e delle grandi tradizioni che condividiamo a causa dei nostri genitori, nonni e bisnonni che hanno lavorato a stabilire queste tradizioni qui a Toronto. Non possiamo lasciar svanire quella storia e quelle tradizioni. E` una grande sfida e il nostro Gruppo Sociale vuole affrontarla con nuove idee, nuove attivita`, impegno della comunita`, carita` e passione. Questo Club e` una famiglia e un luogo di ritrovo per noi, e per i nostri genitori e nonni: e` la nostra seconda casa. Si comincia con il coinvolgimento:

A: It’s very
easy! You can just attend any of our meetings (which occur the first Tuesday of
every month), or e-mail us at
fameefurlane_socialgroup@yahoo.ca to be added to our e-mail list. This way
you will be kept notified of our events and up-to-date on our discussions. There
is no cost associated with joining or remaining a member, so you have nothing to
lose!
Q: Can I attend an event before joining the Social Group?
A: Yes. Our
events are open to anyone who is interested – you do not already have to be a
member to participate.
A: Most of
our members are Friulans who feel the need to encourage other young Friulans to
get involved in activities at the Famee Furlane. Some come out just to enjoy our
fun events! Whatever your motivation, we hope to provide activities and create
awareness of ongoing club events to bring people back to the Famee Furlane!
Q: I don't know anyone, how can I come alone?
A: New
members are always welcome, and our meetings are friendly and informal. We
welcome new ideas and input, and you won’t feel left out even if you come alone!
In fact, many of us started coming to the meetings not knowing anybody else.
Q: Is it true that you organize an event every month?
A: No, we do
not currently organize an event every month since we are still getting ourselves
off the ground and attracting new members. As our group expands, it is a
possibility that we may have events more frequently. We do have monthly
meetings, however, which are open to anyone who is interested in attending, and
these occur on the first Tuesday of every month at the Famee Furlane.
A: It depends
on the event. Some of our events require payment to be made in advance, other
events can be paid at the door. Details will always accompany each event we
host.
Q: Where do your members live?
A: We
currently have members from all over the GTA, especially from Toronto.
A: We have a
large age range in our group: from early twenties, to those in their forties,
and even adults with families of their own. We are open to everyone, and as our
group composition already reflects, we have no age boundaries.
A: This
depends on the type of event. We try to host a variety of events, and so the
costs vary from $5 for a games night, to an $80 dinner theatre evening at the
Famee Furlane. We try to have something for everyone, and the cost will vary
according to the event’s expenses.
Q: Is there a separate membership for the Famee Furlane and if so how much?
A: Yes,
membership to the Famee Furlane is separate. It costs $200 to become a member at
first, and $100 to remain an active member each year thereafter. It is $50 a
year for retired members.
Q: What do members enjoy most about the club?
A: This is different for everyone but in general it seems that people join because they have a Friulan background and wish to become involved in the Famee Furlane Club. Enjoyment comes from being part of an evolving and growing group, meeting new people, working on ideas and projects together. Attend our meetings and events and see for yourselves.
Q: What benefits to members enjoy?
A: Members of the Famee Furlane enjoy a 15% discount at the Fogolâr Restaurant. There are also discounts to some club events, reduced costs in the Member’s Room, and a free bottle of wine on your birthday from the restaurant! So while becoming a member means you are supporting the Friulian community and enjoying some perks at the club, remember that most of the events are open to non-members as well!
